New partnerships delivered titles in men’s and mixed doubles, while the depleted field gave emerging contenders opportunities to turn deep runs into championships.

Three first-time champions in a week without the sport's biggest stars show how close the next tier is. Players chasing a breakthrough should treat open draws as real chances.
Gabe Tardio says joining Ben Johns in men’s doubles redirected his career—and brought nerves that initially held him back. Speaking on Pickleballers, he explained that he had been considering an Indian pro league and an overseas/APP Tour schedule before Johns approached him.
Tardio instead reached a PPA Tour deal. Their debut at the Mesa Cup in February 2025 ended with silver against Andrei Daescu and Christian Alshon. He said familiarity helped him regain his natural game; the partnership has since collected 19 gold medals and won more than 95% of its matches.

Tardio’s account highlights the pressure of a new partnership: he linked his early hesitation to unfamiliarity with Johns, and greater comfort to time spent playing together.

Star appearances can win new fans or sour them. Clubs hosting big names should cap ticket sales at real capacity and promise only the access they can deliver.

Skechers has launched its first pickleball paddles in Malaysia, extending a range that until now covered shoes and clothing, Pickleball News Asia reports. The line has three carbon products: the SKX Titans Silver Titanium Carbon at RM309, the SKX Titans 12K Carbon at RM269 and a RM459 bundle with a paddle, three balls and a bag.
The two Titans paddles are sold in selected concept stores and online, while the bundle is only in outlet stores. Two of the paddles are listed as USA Pickleball approved.

A mass-market brand at these prices lowers the cost of a first carbon paddle. Coaches fitting beginners should still check approval listings and let players test weight and grip first.
